The world's thoughts, patterns and influences are around us everyday ~ and can be difficult to escape !! 
Atmosphere .. TV .. news..  Family influences .. 'it's what's in the water' ..  All have their effect on shaping our own thoughts, beliefs, decisions & behaviours .. 
As Christians we are called to be "in the world but not of it" (John 17:16 ) .. this means that every thought must be made obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) ~ He is our plumbline..

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God and we take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ."

God understand the battle that we face, He is in it with us !! .. read Psalm 36 (amp). 
We must recognize the enemy & not conform ..

"The people that know their God shall be strong and take action " Daniel 11:32
