Prayer and fasting... Daniel
...abstaining from (certain) food (s) for the purpose of seeking God.
Daniel is probably the best known Bible character who fasted and prayed to seek God's help and direction. He prayed and fasted regularly whilst in the King's service and was blessed with wisdom & revelation, courage and protection from God. These are valuable attributes...and we can have such help if only we seek and ask.
Jesus expects his disciples to fast and instructs us in the manner we are to do.....Matthew 6 16-18.
The early church fasted and worshipped for direction Acts 13:2 & care Acts 14:23, and the Psalmist Psalm 35:13 for humility. Jesus himself fasted prior to a time of testing Matthew 4 and in the Old Testament collective fasting happened in difficulty/battle Esther, Ezra, 2Samuel 12:16. Holy fast's were called when people needed to return to God Joel 2:12. Nehemiah 9 1-2. Our fasts are to be for God Zechariah 7 4-6, and with correct lives Isaiah 58.
In your own life try prayer and fasting for vision, clarity, help with difficulties for yourself or for those around you. Seek God by laying aside personal need and giving time in worship to Him. Create a habit of quiet fasting and see what difference it makes..Mark 2 17-19
for some practical guidance try reading God's Chosen Fast by Arthur Wallis:
Always be wise! make a suitable plan - choose what you are going to miss, when and for how long. Don't endanger your health or that of others ~ for instance when you are driving/using machinery etc. Drink plenty fluids. If you have an existing health condition get advice and/or try eating plain food/partial meal instead of usual / fizzy drinks etc.
If your intention is to hear God then He will be pleased !

"Where can we go to find forgiveness?
Where can we go with the burdens of life?
We look to the cross, where our Saviour longs to meet us
He offers His love and sacrifice
There on the cross He died to save us
There on the cross He did it all
He rose from the dead so that we could know forgiveness
That we can have life for evermore.
Let us fall to our knees, let us cling to the cross
and abandon ourselves to Jesus
Where can we go to find the answers?
where can we go with a questioning heart
Who can we trust, when there's no one to listen?
Who knows and loves us as we are?
Let us fall to our knees, let us cling to the cross
And abandon ourselves to Jesus
I wil fall to my knees at the foot of the cross
I will fall at the feet of Jesus
And the cry of my heart, it is "Jesus is Lord"
As I fall at the feet of the King
Let us fall to our feet, let us cling to the cross
Let us fall to our feet, let us cling to the cross.
