Devoted friends ~
"Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God"
Ruth 1:16
Ruth 1:16
The book of Ruth tells the story of devoted friendship and God's provision in the midst of hardship and uncertainty ~ Naomi and her daughter-in-law, Ruth are alone after losing their husbands and livelihoods to ill-health. Instead of parting company, Ruth vows to stay with Naomi and they travel to her homeland where they are taken care of by a relative who sees their need. Ruth marries Boaz and they have a child, Obed who becomes part of the family line of King David. (Ruth)
The Bible shows many relationships, some good, others less so. Jesus values friendship and shows his care to his disciples and friends through provision, comfort and sacrifice.
(John 11 1-44, John 21 1-12, John 15,13)

Today those who follow him, he calls friends & He expects us to love others as He loves us.
(John 15 9-17)
Friendships may change and grow, they will all be different, some close, some less so ~ but they all have the power to influence us for good or bad.
(1Corinthians 15:33)
Jesus reached out in friendship when he came to us as a baby, God's way of bridging the gap betweeen heaven and earth.
Have a think about your friends ~ do you have real friendships? Is God your first call? Are you a good friend to others?
At the beginning of this year
* devote yourself to Christ and make your friendship with Him your focus.
* reach out, as God guides, in friendship to others.
* protect yourself, with God's wisdom and strength, from friendship with the things of this world. (James 4)
