Prayer
Prayer is a two way communication bond between God and Man. God speaks to us through passages in the Bible, creation, a sense of His presence, a quiet voice, visions or dreams, angelic visitations (as in the Gospel of Matthew) or through other people - in fact the Bible teaches that no-one can come to Him without first being called.
We listen and respond; we can pray to God and spend time with Him in daily life and at specific moments or during time set aside. Prayer can include thanks for provision e.g. grace at mealtime; requests for help - with health, family, work, friendships etc; confession of mistakes and wrong-doings (sins); expressing thoughts and feelings & cares; and praise for who God is and all He has done for us.
Prayer may be for ourselves, others, our neighbourhood or the world around us. It may be silent (unspoken), private, together, aloud, planned, written or spontaneous. Some prayers will be answered straight away, others we may need to be patient for or be persistent with. God hears when we come believing He will answer and teaches in the Bible that anything we ask for that pleases Him- we will receive. We ask in the name of God's son, Jesus, who 'goes between' us and the Lord Almighty.
Below are some written prayers you can try:
From the Bible (KJV AD 1611):
The Lord's Prayer
As Jesus taught us to pray
" Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread Forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those Who trespass against us And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from evil For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory For ever and ever, Amen" |
